Whiplash Daisy
Also called Trailing Fleabane

Colorado native. I accidentally introduced this plant to the garden when transplanting other natives collected from dad’s mountain property. The small white flowers less than 3/4 inch in diameter bloom sporadically throughout the summer, standing 3-5" tall and waving in the slightest breeze. The common names ("whiplash", "trailing") describe the growth habit – the tiny basal plants send out hundreds of long runners, much like a strawberry plant, rooting wherever they touch the ground and forming a new plant. Over time they can produce a large, dense mat of runners that doesn’t look particularly attractive, but it’s such an unusual plant it has become one of my favorites.
