Experience South Africa’s Mother City

Cape Town, or South Africa’s mother city, as it is sometimes called, is located on the shore of Table Bay near the southern tip of the continent. The Dutch East India Company originally formed Cape Town as a supply station for Dutch sailing ships traveling to East Africa, India and the Far East. Cape Town is the provincial and legislative capital and home to the National Parliament and other government offices. The city is second in population and the largest in land area. The mother city boasts landmarks such as Table Mountain and Cape Point as well as the harbor, Point of Cape Town.

Flights into the mother city touch down at Cape Town International Airport, located about 20 minutes from the Cape Town City Centre. Some flights, however, first stop in Johannesburg. It is highly recommended to pre-book transportation from the airport to the city through shuttle services of Magic Bus, City Hopper or Centurion. Private taxis are also available.
