Experience South Africa’s Mother City
Cape Town, or South Africa’s mother city, as it is sometimes called, is located on the shore of Table Bay near the southern tip of the continent. The Dutch East India Company originally formed Cape Town as a supply station for Dutch sailing ships traveling to East Africa, India and the Far East. Cape Town is the provincial and legislative capital and home to the National Parliament and other government offices. The city is second in population and the largest in land area. The mother city boasts landmarks such as Table Mountain and Cape Point as well as the harbor, Point of Cape Town.
Flights into the mother city touch down at Cape Town International Airport, located about 20 minutes from the Cape Town City Centre. Some flights, however, first stop in Johannesburg. There is no public transportation between the airport and the city. It is highly recommended to pre-book transportation from the airport to the city through shuttle services of Magic Bus, City Hopper or Centurion. Private taxis are also available.

Visit Table Mountain or Muizenberg Beach, one of South Africa’s most popular surfing beaches. Take a respite at Simon’s Town and visit Boulders Beach, home to one of the world’s penguin breeding colonies or play nine holes and have lunch. The trip from Cape Town to Simon’s Town is filled with wondrous landscapes and at the right time of the year a glimpse of the Southern Right whales visit.
For the golf fan, the mother city boasts some of the most challenging courses in the world. Break in your game with nine holes at the Metropolitan Golf Course near City Centre. It was established in 1895 and is line for an upgrade. If 18 holes of golf is on your agenda Westlake’s 18 holes is set under the tall pines and at the foot of Silvermine Mountain.
